Liner Notes for Remix the Future of Economic Growth
Remix doesn’t have tele-prompters or filters – within this space, you'll share an experience and listen to others. We only ask for one thing, to take the ideas you love and build on them.
You'll want to be on time. From 6-6:30pm you will have the opportunity to cut your own sample video as a digital gift / takeaway from the program. So, starting thinking about how and why you are Remixing the Future of Economic Growth in 2018! Make sure you're camera ready Monday night.
You'll want to brush up on your audio engineering skills. From 6-6:30pm Young Guru and San Francisco local DJ Occult will take you through an interactive audio engineering experience and take you through the music production process. Jerald Cooper, Era of the Engineer, will be on hand to share a preview of the Sleeping Giants Study (see excerpt below).
You'll want to be prepared. Don't worry, there's no test. We have prepared liner notes to get you up to speed on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) and what Young Guru is all about.

The UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's)
More than 8,000 companies have have made formal commitments to pursue these 17 Sustainable Development Goals. To frame them, the UN has conducted the largest consultation program in its history.
Economic Growth
"Economic growth should be a positive force for the whole planet. This is why we must make sure that financial progress creates decent and fulfilling jobs while not harming the environment. We must protect labour rights and once and for all put a stop to modern slavery and child labour. If we promote job creation with expanded access to banking and financial services, we can make sure that everybody gets the benefits of entrepreneurship and innovation."
Architecture and Economic Growth (Gensler)
Gensler is widely recognized as the world’s leading collaborative design firm, not just the largest. The ability to work together as an integrated team is part of their DNA, and they’ve embraced it at every level, from their Co-CEOs to their studios and project teams.

Excerpt of Sleeping Giants Study by Era of the Engineer
Everyone remembers the Apollo 11 mission and the impact that it had on a generation of kids. For a decade after Neil Armstrong made one giant leap for mankind, the number of kids studying math and science skyrocketed as the whole universe somehow now seemed accessible. Less remembered is the story of kids from the Bronx in the early 1970s, rummaging through old electronics parts to hack together turntables and speakers. This was the birth of hip hop, and it spawned not just a new generation of artists but a an entire ecosystem of aspiring engineers and technicians.
In both instances, pop culture fundamentally guided career choices. We designed the Sleeping Giant Study because we believe culture plays a pivotal role in what people “want to be when they grow up.” Our study is the first of its kind to investigate the cultural influences that inspired people in STEM fields to choose those careers. Specifically, we will assess the impact of the rise of digital music production and audio engineering on the career choices of Black and Brown people. Our hope is to use our findings to support the creation of innovative curricula and programs that leverage cultural cues to get kids interested in STEM careers.
Lowering the Barriers: Instrucktional Labs
Aspiring baker and Instrucktional food entrepreneur Elizabeth Miranda will be serving up desserts after the conversation Monday night. Instrucktional is a 24 month educational training program for entrepreneurs in the mobile food industry run by The Whole Cart for Google Inc and Off the Grid. It provides entrepreneurs with the tools, skills, and support they need to test their food business concepts and prepare for success in the open marketplace after program completion.
